KSM Series Probe Bar

KOPEL KSM Series probe bars enhance the measurement accuracy and repeatability of PV cell IV measurement by providing much higher precision and durability than competitors’products.


Solar Cell Test System

The KOPEL KSM Series probe bars are mounted on the KOPEL KSJ-026 high-precision cell setter to ensure stable probing. Since probing performance is the key to IV measurement accuracy, the probing bars are an indispensable component for ensuring high repeatability of the measured data. Also, mass-production lines of PV cells require highly durable probe bars to reduce production cost. The KOPEL KSM Series probe bars are capable of withstanding at least 1million contacts for probing.

The KOPEL KSM Series probe bars have a very thin but strong structure to minimize the shadow of the bar created by the simulated sunlight. And their high durability ensures accurate IV measurement at lower resistance.

The KOPEL KSM Series probe bars are incorporated into the KOPEL KSX-1000 high-performance solar cell test system and the KSX-3000H high-efficiency solar cell test system.


  • Standard probe bar types are available in heights ranging from 7 mm to 25 mm and thickness of minimum 0.5 mm
  • Highly accurate, stable IV measurement with less variation in conductivity and minimized influence of the shadow of each bar

KSM Series Probe Bars Available for a Variety of PV Cell Types

The KOPEL KSM Series probe bars are available in various types corresponding to the PV cell types to be measured, the cell electrode positions, and the contact methods.

KOPEL KSJ-026 cell setters can be configured in four types by selecting the probe bars appropriate for the PV cells to be measured. These four configuration types can support a variety of PV cells, ranging from standard silicon PV cells to high-efficiency PV cells such as HIT® as well as back-contact type PV cells.

New Probe Bar Model under Development with Kyoto’s Traditional Techniques for Producing Gold Threads Used for Nishijin-ori (Nishijin fabric)

This new probe bar model, currently under development (patent pending), uses the gold threads of Kyoto’s traditional “Nishijin-ori (Nishijin fabric)” textile as its probes.

A conventional probe is a gold-plated pin put into contact with the bus bar. With this pin contact method, in production lines, the contact resistance slightly varies at every contact to cause a measurement error. If the contact pressure varies, the measured data also varies.

On the other hand, the new probe bar using gold threads under development is able to ensure stable contact with the elasticity and conductivity of the gold threads because the gold threads are stringed tightly in the grooves of the probe bar.

In addition, the height of this probe bar can be kept as low as 4 mm to minimize the influence of the shadow produced by simulated sunlight, thus further enhancing the measurement accuracy.
